NATIONAL PARK SERVICE SEEKS ASSISTANCE
IN THE PRESERVATION OF HISTORIC GRAFFITI ON ALCATRAZ
A conservative study recently determined that graffiti remaining on Alcatraz from the Indian occupation of 1969-1971 is deteriorating rapidly. The National Park Service is committed to preserving these important historic resources. Currently, NPS staff are surveying and photo-documenting the graffiti in order to create a permanent record. We need the help of individuals who participated in the occupation of Alcatraz in making decisions about how best to preserve the graffiti. To find out more about this effort, about how to get involved, or to share information that you feel is important, visit the NPS table set up at Alcatraz 30th Anniversary Celebration (parade grounds), or contact Paul Scolari, Historian, Golden Gate National Recreation area, at (415) 561-4813.
